question of the month:

question of the month: what have you changed in your shop as a result of the increased prices of power and materials. Slater Tools’ Peter Bagwell offered the following:

“I’ve revisited two purchasing methods to combat steel prices recently. First, I’ve asked the steel suppliers to send me a list of their stock sizes. Although this seems like something everyone would do, not all stock the same sizes and lately they’ve had a few bars of odd size stock closer to the size I need. This saves on machining, price and weight. Second, I’ve sold unused material back to suppliers and scrap dealers. Prices are high, and it’s a good time to move and negotiate those items.” – Business Resources
